Junk Mail Attack

My project is a statement on the massive amount of waste that occurs with snail mail. I have been collecting mail for about 4 months now (started in mid-May 2018) and the stack is taller than a Venti Starbucks cup. The mail is a mixture of grocery store ads, fast food deals, mail from the old renter, and multiple different coupon codes and deals. This mail has manifested into a junk mail attack and monster within my images. Which I believe speaks to my belief that we have turned into monsters about our material objects and the consumer culture that we live in. I plan on continuing to collect as much mail as I can for as many months as I can and compiling it. This is an extremely political statement on waste and the consumer culture that we have dived head first into. Almost every single piece of mail that was delivered to my house was trying to sell me something. With the new political climate that has been created I believe this stack of wasted mail is the perfect representation of the consumer culture focused society and the turning away from policies that could help slow the death of our planet. When this work is put out publicly I know it will be a political statement and create very political opinions.

I have now collected two store containers full of junk mail after only about 8 months of collecting all of the mail that is junk (advertisements, coupon books, etc.). I plan on continuing to make art using this junk mail surrounding the issue of waste and over-the-top advertisement.
